OMG, the law that's supposed to protect workers in the UK has been totally violated. SMH.
I asked my peeps how employment-related vibes applied to them and how satisfied were they with employment relationships, contracts and stuff. OMG, like, over 2/3 of my peeps (19) said they were totally not vibing with their job's terms, hours, time off, rights, responsibilities, duties, pay rate, etc. The tea on Daniel, Grigore, and Lina, like, tells us that their boss was all like, "Stay for overtime, fam," but Lina's boss didn't even follow the overtime pay rates in her contract. SMH. Lina accepted a job offer but was like constantly asked to do mad different things that were not even covered by her contract, like bruh. However, the interviews give a chance to hear about a bunch of participant vibes.I asked Raymond about his tea on his work rights or any other issues he's been through, ya know?
He was like, "Yo, I've been grinding without a legit contract until just now." He said: I heard that in theory, company can't flex on a term in my contract (the irony is I was never given a contract!) without me vibing with the change. The company's redundancy vibes and the consultation sesh are like low-key saying they're trying to make me accept the redundancy without telling me about the sneaky changes and how they're gonna pick who gets cut. If my line manager is supposed to hit me up before these changes, why she didn't do it tho? Is it just cuz she's ghosting me for redundancy without telling me what I'm supposed to be doing in the pack-house and what the pay is (piece work or time work!) Is it 'cause she be hatin' on me 'cause of who I am? Dalena lowkey be like, she ain't even get her basic rights. She was like: I've been grinding without my legal drip. Now I'm like, facing redundancy, you know? I have, like, so many beefs with my employer but idk how to, like, air my grievances and get them handled, you know? I have no clue how to flex and appeal against the Company's whack redundancy decision. I wanna like, totally bring up a legit question about whether this company's whole redundancy thing is, like, valid and reliable, you know? Few migrant workers, fam
become hella redundant while local workers' gigs have been hella safe. Attention has like totally not been paid to avoid discrimination, fam. So, like, criteria will totally have a negative vibe on us as members of ethnic groups, you know? She lowkey blamed herself for the sitch, and her lack of English that prevented her from knowing her rights and where to go for help and advice if things went south. Dalena now like totally gets that life in Britain without English could make her hella vulnerable.
She was like, "I gotta level up my English skills and fix my communication struggles so I can fully vibe with what's going on around me, you know?"
Although the Equality Act 2010 provides mad protection from unlawful discrimination, the employers of Anastazja, Zoran, Celina, and Paulius totally failed to protect them from direct and indirect discrimination, discrimination arising from harassment and victimisation in pay and benefits. It's like, not cool, man. Yo, like the law straight up says that employers gotta protect their workers from discrimination and harassment, right? But these fools be constantly hating on Dalena, Paulius, and Zoran, like that's just straight up degrading their dignity and making their work environment all intimidating, hostile, and offensive. Not cool, man. Like, even though the law is supposed to protect everyone (you know, all the protected stuff under the Equality Act 2010), there are some employers who straight up don't follow the law. OMG, like Anastazja, Raymond, and Dalena's stories totally show that with all the social inequality and like, the lack of social mobility, Britain has seen a major decline in workers' rights, civil liberties, and human rights (Tyler, 2013: 6). Lit! These concerns may be legit reasons for work accommodations to achieve anti-discrimination goals or to prevent discrimination and promote equality of cultural capital, ya know?
